FIFTH GRADE CURRICULUM
LANGUAGE ARTS
The language arts program consists of reading, grammar, writing and spelling. Reading consists of modern realistic fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, legends and plays. Students study the eight parts of speech, sentence structure and diagramming, punctuation and capitalization. Daily writing provides challenges to create stories, narratives, and persuasive writing descriptions.
MATH
At this level, the Everyday math program enables students to study the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, common fractions and decimal fractions.
Science
The 5th grade science curriculum is divided into life science, physical science and earth science. Field trips, hands-on experiments and other activities are used to enhance and supplement the science curriculum.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The students study American History, from the early days of the Native Americans to the present. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are also included in this study. United States geography and economics is introduced.
SPIRITUAL VALUES
The curriculum consists of a survey of Old Testament history. Students learn that as God desired His people to possess the land of Canaan, so He desires His children to live in a spiritual realm of promise and victory. The students gain a clearer perspective of how the stories of the Old Testament fit together into one pattern.
